Update 12/31/2011; Still Making Small Steps

Hi,

Here is the update:

Yesterday Dad was feeling a little better and was able to sit up on the side of the bed with the help of the physical therapist. His voice is getting stronger little by little. Also, this morning Dad was moved out of the CCU and in to a regular room. This is awesome improvement! We still like people to stop by to pray and give encouragement but please understand that visit time will be limited. If you are feeling a little under the weather, we ask that you not to come because Dad's immune system is still weak. Sorry to be difficult but he is going to need lots of rest because he is still weak and still fighting the infection. If you wish to send Dad a message and are unable to make it to the hospital, please feel free to post it to the blog, send Ems or myself a message on Facebook or send it to my email at toddfrazier09@gmail.com. We will make sure he gets it!

Thanks again for all who continue to pray for Dad!

Please pray for:

- Life over Dad.
- the antibiotics will work and fight off the infection completely.
- that Dad's voice will continue to get stronger.
- his body will heal and gain strength so that he can go home.

Till next time...Colossians 1:27.

Update 12/29/2011; Still Making Small Steps

Hi,

I'm sorry for not posting anything for the past couple of days but I am pleased to say that Dad has made some good progress since the last post. Here is the update:

- Dad is off the breathing machine!! He started to become more alert yesterday afternoon and was able to respond to simple "yes" and "no" questions but was still on the machine. Early this morning they were able to take him off the machine (tube out of his mouth) but kept him on a little oxygen to help with his breathing. All today he has been able to respond to simple questions and give a few grunts. His vocal cords are a little weak (due to the breathing tube)and it will require a day or so before he is able to verbally communicate clearly (which, as you can imagine, is driving him crazy right now).
- Since he is breathing on his own now, his body is having to work a little harder than it has been over the past week. He is still on antibiotics and fighting the infection, which has not improved very much since the last post.

With this said, we want to let everyone know that the chance of getting in to see Dad over the next few days might be a little challenging. Stopping by the hospital to check in is still encouraged but we want to make you aware that you might not be able to see him if you do so. The medical staff has encourage us to limit the number of visits in order to give him time to rebuild his strength. Even though he is awake and off the breathing machine, he has yet to make it out of the woods. His body is still fighting hard against the sickness.

Please continue to pray for:
- Life over Dad
- That the antibiotics will work and that the white blood count will go down.
- He is be able to get off of the oxygen completely so he can move to a regular room and out of the CCU.
- His vocal cords will strengthen quickly

Again, thank you all so much for your prayers and support!!! Till next time....

Update 12/27/2011; Small Steps

Hi!

Guess what?? Dad is starting to wake up! This evening he opened his eyes ever so slightly and was responsive to sound. Meaning, when we said "hi" he would open his eyes and glance towards the speaker. Mom and Ems read to him just before we left for the night and he kept his eyes open through the entire reading.

The sedative has not fully left his system, so he still cannot squeez hands but that is the next step. Now that he is waking up, he is going to be a "little" tired. I know he has been out for a few days but apparently that didn't necessarily mean he was resting. His body is still fighting the sickness. With that said, we DO NOT want to discourage people from coming to see him. As I have stated before, we like visitors and we know he does as well. But we will need to limit the amount of time of each visit. If you have the opportunity to stop by over the next few days, please stop by the CCU waiting room before walking back to his room. Please understand, we are not asking for people to stop comming, we just want everyone to know that the amount of time will be limited due to Dad needing to rest.

Here are some prayer requests:
- "Life" over Dad.
- to wake up fully and respond to commanads
- that the antibiotics would work and white blood count would go down (I know...I know, we just finished praying for the count to go up...which it did but its up to 49.0. It needs to be between 8.0 and 10.0).
- that everything is perfect neurologically.

Here are some versus Mom wanted to pass on:
Deut. 30:19
Proverbs 4:20-22
Psalms 107:20
Psalms 118:17
Psalms 91:16

As always, we are very thankful to have such a host of believers praying for Dad. Thank you all!

Update 12/26/2011

Hello Everyone!

Here is the update:

- still waiting and praying for Dad to wake up! Sedation medication is still working through his system. I know that it seems a little disappointing that he hasn't woken up yet but the medical staff says that it could take several days before it works through the system. In one particular case, it took 6 days for the individual to wake up...so we are staying the course and praying hard!
- he is still on a small dose of blood pressure medicine but his blood pressure is improving.

Some good news:

- white blood cell count is good and stable. They have stopped giving him medicine to increase the count.
- kidneys are stable! This is an improvement from a few days ago. The new antibiotic has helped the condition of the kidneys. We haven't received an update on the status of the infection but hope to have some more information by the end of the day.

As always, thanks to everyone who have continued to pray for Dad. We are so thankful and so blessed to have such a strong group of believers supporting us through this time!

Update 12/24/11

Hello Everyone!

Here is the update:

- The main goal for today is to get Dad off of the sedative medication and get him awake. Since he had such a low blood pressure, they are unsure as to how much blood and oxygen went to the brain during the early stage of his stay at the hospital.
- Blood pressure is looking good! He is still receiving the low dose of blood pressure medicine.
- White cell count still looks good.
- Oxygen level from the breathing machine is down to 40%.

Key improvements to pray for:

1) He needs to wake up!! This has been the longest time my dad has gone without saying a word and all of you know that he is not the silent type. We are looking for him to make eye contact and respond to commands (squeezing hands, nodding his head, etc.)

2) The kidney function needs to improve. They are ok for now but we need them back to 100%.

3) They have switched to a new antibiotic. The old antibiotics were taking a toll on the kidneys and needed to be changed. We need this new antibiotic to do an even better job fighting against the infection.

Thanks everyone for your prayers!!

Update 12/23/2011

Hello Everyone!

Here is the update on Dad:

- Respirator set at 60% oxygen. This is really good because when he was emitted to the hospital, they put him on 100% oxygen.
- Very low amount of blood pressure medication. On Tuesday, he needed the maximum amount.
- 8.7 white blood cell count. It was 0 on Tuesday.
- Daily chest x-ray looked good.

Thank you all for your continued support and prayers!!
